Have a quick question about insurance for you guys. Is it stupidly expensive for a teenager with an E36 M3?

I'm not those two but...
Call your parents’ insurance and ask for a quote. Call around town and ask. You might get a low rate because of being on parents policy. All depends.

When I was a teenager with my Dad’s old 91 Celica, it cost $900 for a summer (3 months) to put me on my parents’ plan as a non-primary driver.
Translation: Yes.

Since I’m 15 the insurance for my car is under my parents, however I do know of a few people around my age who have owned E36 M3s, and they say the prices aren’t nearly as bad as they expected, but it seems it does matter quite a bit on state and the insurance company you go through.

Yes.

I'm not a teenager, I was just browsing CL and saw how cheap they were going for, and that they would be a sweet first ride.

I figured it wouldn't be TOO bad. They aren't worth huge amounts and they are getting up there in age, I figured insurance would have gone down. They really are a great choice for a first car.

E36 M3's aren't very high end these days.

you REALLY think the insurance company is going to see that?
they see BMW, M3. and then the year which means part will be harder to come by and more expensive if needed to get fixed (this is in the insurance companies mind)

Agreed. Policies vary from state to state. I didn’t realize how much so until I started working in claims.

They'll also see that the car is only worth maybe $5k and could easily be totaled.

Not to mention more likely to break down due to old age.

True, but at the end of the day it’s still an M3 and carriers will see that. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to shop around and also see if there are any Indy agents in your area who deal in more than one insurance company.

yea, the dipshit behind the screen is just going to google M# price and see the cost of a new one.
the TLDR: yes, its going to be pricry then a corolla.

If I was 16 again and I had the choice to get an E36 M3 for $5k.. I'd be willing to get raped on insurance.

I paid my insurance as a teen, I never hooned unless I was 99% certain I was clear (empty snowy parking lots at midnight on a Wednesday) because I was so scared of getting a ticket. Many years later, I still haven't gotten a ticket lol.

Mines like $100-something a month under my parent’s policy with me as the main driver. It's also minimum coverage mind you, but it only went up a little bit from the GMC.

That's not bad at all, thanks.

I can’t imagine it being too expensive, shit I have an’02 M3 and a leased 2015 Chevy Cruze with a couple small accidents on my M3 and it only cost me around $300/mo.

My insurance company considered my car a “sports car” when I was 17. The car in question:
What made it a “sports car”? The “GT” designation. So, I'd imagine if they considered this thing a sports car, they'd consider an M3 a damn rocket.

Hold on homie, you’re 15? You take some impressive photos and you have an impressive vehicle. I’m 16, and I get my license in June, but my budget is like $4.20 so I’ll be stuck with a Volvo 850 or a Pontiac Sunfire.
But this is like the, “least worst,” photo I’ve taken.
And that was just taken on my Moto X.

going to say expensive. In HS i got to use my moms van yet paid about the same as my cousins 10 year old c class. the difference is he had the bare state minimum in coverage, and the max deductible.

5/6 years ago my brother (20 at the time) got a 95 M3, it was cheaper to insure than an 05 grand prix.
